Play outside for your body and soul
This last of the three part series returns to how being outside helps you cleanse your body and soul and improves your overall health.
In May I mentioned the benefits of vitamin D for strong healthy bones and fighting cancer. I am returning again to vitamin D and some of the other amazing qualities it has. Playing outside in the fresh air and sunshine keeps your body in production of optimum levels of vitamin D. This vitamin is actually a very potent neuroregulatory steroidal hormone that influences 3,000 of your 30,000 genes and affects many of your body systems to promote health. It protects you from over 33 different diseases including the flu, cold’s, heart disease, hypertension, depression and other mental disorders. Some of the less known benefits of vitamin D are in stimulation of the immune system, helping in the regulation of insulin and blood sugar levels, increasing muscle strength and brain activity.
Vitamin D research in the area of detoxification has found that the vitamin safely helps the removal of mercury from the body by increasing the production of intercellular glutathione, a very powerful antioxidant. So as you now know, playing in the sun helps you feel good, from the stimulation of feel good neurotransmitters in your brain to the numerous cleansing and health benefits of vitamin D. Go ahead and enjoy that volley ball game at the beach or the hike in the mountains. For a reminder of how much sun is appropriate please click on the past articles link to read May’s article “fun in the sun”.
From all of us at Integrated Wellness, wishing much fun and good health.
